Toilets are one of those things you take for granted. That is, until you travel. Because, as equal as our physiological needs make us (we all eat, we all poop), that doesn’t mean the place we choose to do it is always the same. German toilets, for example, have a shelf to catch your poop so you can examine it before flushing. Chinese public restrooms have no walls or doors or locks (why would you want to hide while doing something so natural?). In space, well, let’s just say there’s a vacuum involved.
