When you think of Nevada, what comes to mind? Probably not its epic art, but Reno’s got an avant garde art scene that’ll blow your mind.
Illustrator and graphic designer Travis Bone, along with Matador producer Kyle Lamont, takes a road trip through Nevada to show us some of its best work. They start in Reno for a stroll through The Generator, a 35,000-square-foot space responsible for many of the epic sculptures that grace the Playa at Burning Man. Next is a trip through the mural district, where complex social ideas are addressed in beautiful ways.
Heading east about four hours lands them in Elko for the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, where song, dance, and all things Western show up and throw down. The trip ends in Bone’s studio, where they watch a screenprinted poster inspired by their trip come to life. If you haven’t done art in Nevada, maybe now’s the time.
