St. Martin’s Press and Matador are stoked to announce the forthcoming publication of the book 101 Places to Get F*cked Up Before You Die.

PART TRAVEL GUIDE, PART SOCIAL COMMENTARY, and part drunken cultural anthropology, 101 Places goes where no travel book has gone before. Join Matador’s crew of award winning travel journalists and ambassadors plus an all-star cast of party-crashers as we breach security, ride ill-recommended ferries, and hike miles into the wilderness to report on partying possibilities all over. Whether it’s calling out wankers at cliched Vegas blowouts or stumbling upon sudden transcendence off the map in Southern Brazil, 101 Places will give insightful, hilarious, and at times unexpectedly poignant portraits of place, travel, and culture around the world.

The book will also contain 25 original color photographs from leading surf, lifestyle, and travel photographers such as Chris Burkard (featured above). It will be published and distributed nationally in 2014.

How is Burning Man or Pampolona Running of the Bulls not on this list…

    • Carlo Alcos

There are topics/events that are already being written. The list above isn’t exhaustive, just what we’re currently looking for.

  • Nadia Kiamilev

  • Jason Sanqui

As someone who worked there…Shaoxing, China. A relatively small city by Chinese standards with not much to do except go to one of the handful of bars and get wasted.

  • Justyna Rechberger

is someone already covering songkran in thailand or vang vieng in laos?

  • Katka Lapelosová

Is there a way we can get a list of events/places already being covered, so as not to submit duplicate entries? Doesn’t have to be public, I just don’t want to waste anyone’s time.

  • Janice Temple

    Please clarify “indigestible”?

    • Paul Venerable

After you swallow it and it slides through the esophages and hit da belly. These juices are released to break it fown so the small intestines can absorb it into the bloodstream.

    • Janice Temple

Thanks @[100000055490970:2048:Paul Venerable]! I am trying to figure out what does it mean in Travel Guide?
Guide section: Location, Season/Event, Ideal Conditions, Lodging, Indigestible (Approx 600-700 words)

Are they saying you have to get so drunk that you vomit then write about it?

    • Christine Marie

It says “Ingestibles”, just meaning what kinds of drinks, food are great to try in bars

    • Matador Network

Hey Janice, please see our new example doc: http://matadornetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/101-Places-Sample-Entry-Montreal-Quebec1.pdf which explains format and ‘ingestibles’. Thanks!

  • Helen Mitchell

Planning on submitting something about Nola, but how about Natchez, MS?

  • Young Adventuress

Are the entries due Jan 14th or 15th? There is a discrepancy in the dates listed above. Can we submit entries on places not included on this list?

  • Armando Silva

What about san fermin Pamplona and carnival Canary Islands

  • James Hendicott

Just to let you guys know – the phone number part of the form doesn’t deal well with international numbers. My phone number doesn’t fit the expected pattern, so I put most of it on the form and a note with the full number at the top of the submission. I really enjoyed writing this, I hope it’s to your liking!

  • Peter Pulcinella Parker

I submitted a piece on Dublin, I hope you like it…If you do or if the deadline gets extended I think I could do one on Rome and Cape Town, unfortunately I had no time..thanks for the opportunity anyways!

  • Sherman Jenny

Any chance the deadline was extended?

    • Carlo Alcos

Hi Sherman…the deadline hasn’t been extended per se, but please feel free to write directly to editors at matadornetwork dot com.

  • Eugen Marculescu
