When I was asked if I’d be interested in serving on the Board of Directors of Project Explorer, I knew a bit about the organization — we’d profiled it on Matador last year — but I didn’t really know what it meant to serve on the board of a non-profit.
Twitter Contest: Tickets to the Project Explorer Event in NYC
For most board members, their responsibilities involve raising funds that allow the organization to do its work; for others, tasks involve networking and helping out with the organization’s logistical day-to-day and big picture functions. In the time I’ve been on the board, I’ve learned a lot about what it takes to keep a non-profit on its feet (lots of hard work and many hands).
From time to time, we get to celebrate our work and our success, and on October 17, 2011, we’ll be doing that at the New York City launch party of a series of educational videos about Thailand. The party will be held at the Tribeca Grand Hotel and is being hosted by Andrew McCarthy, actor and travel writer. McCarthy, whose work has appeared in pretty much every glossy American travel magazine, was named travel writer of the year by the Society of American Travel Writers last year.
