YESTERDAY AN ALL-FEMALE CREW from the Royal Brunei Airlines landed a Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Saudi Arabia, where women are banned from driving.

The milestone achieved by Captain Sharifah Czarena, Senior First Officer Dk Nadiah, and Senior First Officer Sariana marked Brunei’s National Day.

Last year the late King Abdullah allowed Saudi women to vote for the first time in municipal elections. According to the BBC, “a total of 978 women also registered as candidates”.

Slowly, but surely, things are changing for women in Saudi Arabia.
