Train With Pros and Meet Soccer Stars: All About Airbnb's World Cup Experiences

Sporting Events
by Suzie Dundas May 5, 2026

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just weeks away, Airbnb — a company now known not just for a place to stay, but for destination experiences — is going all-in on creating unique ways for fans to celebrate. Today, it rolled out a large-scale collection of experiences that will bring fans close not just to soccer legends, but to the culture of each host city. Experiences available range from the chance to step onto the pitch at Hard Rock Stadium to making their own custom jersey, guided by the designer who designed the official jerseys for the World Cup.

The “Airbnb Original Experiences” are spread out between multiple host cities and divided into three categories: FIFA Fan Experiences, Adapted Experiences, and Fan Meetup Experiences. They include 16 available activities and are part of Airbnb’s role as an official tournament supporter.

Airbnb FIFA Fan Experiences

The flagship tier of offerings will give fans a chance to meet and learn from some of the biggest names in the sport. The “Train with Football Legends” experience gives fans the chance to get pointers from former Arsenal and Crystal Palace soccer star Ian Wright in New York, or learn from two-time Olympian and US women’s national team star Christen Press in Los Angeles. Or if you think your skills are already up to par, you can play an actual match with Bradley Wright-Phillips (of the New York Red Bulls) and Lloyd Sam (of the Red Bulls and DC United) at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, decked out in a custom kit.

Also on offer is a VIP day with Landon Donovan and Tim Howard, the two American soccer icons (and hosts of the Unfiltered Soccer podcast). Fans will get to go behind the scenes of a live recording and spend time with both legends as they share stories about past World Cups. And if you’re more interested in the heroes behind the scenes, you may want to participate in a more fashion-forward experience: the chance to create a custom World Cup jersey, guided by the official FIFA World Cup designer from Adidas.

Airbnb Fan Meetup Experiences

The second category of experience is all about getting participants into the energy of the game, focused on experiences that bring superfans together. In Miami, fans can meet fellow soccer supporters on a cruise through Biscayne Bay, and in Los Angeles, they can attend a match day party at Rossoblu (a restaurant whose moniker comes from a nickname for the Bologna Football Club, an Italian soccer team). Other fan activities include a lucha libre-themed watch party in Mexico City, or a match day gathering on the indoor soccer fields at Soccerrood in New York City.

The final type of Airbnb World Cup experience gathers activities that help connect fans to the cities they’re visiting. Artistic types can paint poa mural with renowned graffiti artist Quake at an outdoor art gallery in Miami, or head to Brooklyn, where they’ll get to design their own custom World Cup-inspired athletic shoes with an Adidas designer. In Mexico City, two experiences await: poring through the design archives of Estadio Azteca architects Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and Rafael Mijares Alcérreca, or playing fút-tennis (a soccer/tennis hybrid) with Mexican soccer star Fer Piña. Those attending matches in Toronto also have two local experiences available, including a soccer-themed chocolate-making session and a workout session with a celebrity trainer.

All of the Airbnb World Cup experiences are one-day events — except for one. Airbnb already kicked off the celebrations by announcing “The Ultimate Quarter Final Getaway.” Winning fans will get to join Manchester United superstar Rio Ferdinand in Los Angeles, spending four days tied to the World Cup quarter final. The package includes a stay in a private Airbnb in LA with a private chef, tickets to the match, curated experiences around the city, and an afternoon spent with Ferdinand to play some footie and sit in on his World Cup-themed podcast recording. It includes almost everything during the stay, but guests will need to buy their own flights to Los Angeles.

Some details of the Rio Ferdinand fan experience are already available online, with bookings opening on May 12 at 5:00 AM EST. Only four spots are available, each for two people, and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The trip runs from July 8–11, 2026.

For the rest of the activities, specific details on availability, pricing, and dates have not yet been announced. However, there’s time to figure it out, as those activities won’t be available for booking until May 20 at 1 PM EST. Those details will be revealed when the activities go live on May 5, with details available at Airbnb.com/FIFA.
