If you needed a reason to visit Aspen this winter besides world-class skiing, this adorable Bernese mountain dog is it. The St. Regis Aspen has just named Kitty Jacob Astor II, a Bernese mountain dog puppy, its new official mascot. His unique name is inspired by the dog owned by St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV, who also had a dog named Kitty in 1904 — an example of the founder’s unique sense of humor.
Although new to the job, Kitty already has some pretty big responsibilities around the hotel, including helping with airport pickups, hosting storytime with kids, attending community events, cuddling guests in the lobby, and greeting visitors with a big welcome hug. In addition to being gentle, friendly, and patient, since Bernese mountain dogs are bred for alpine environments, Kitty loves the snow and is perfectly suited to his new Aspen home.
To meet Kitty before your trip to Aspen, follow him on Instagram, where he gives hotel tours and even weather reports. In his spare time, Kitty enjoys exploring the alpine landscape, playing in the snow, and showing off his colorful personality.
