Nearly every year, Denmark comes out number one in the World Happiness Report. I set out to find why this is exactly. Is it the sunny summers, the free education, the anarchist pot-smoking neighborhoods? Or might it have something to do with “hygge” — Demark’s defining cultural institution — a kind of contentedness that comes with sharing good times with friends and family?
Whatever it is, I set out across Copenhagen to find the secret of their happiness, and along with some zany characters, just may have found it.
