The Most Sought-After Spring Rentals Near National Parks, According to Airbnb

California Moab Outdoor National Parks Epic Stays
by Katie Scott Aiton Mar 5, 2026

Spring is one of my favorite times of the year to get away. The stress of the holiday season is long forgotten; temperatures are starting to warm, and summer crowds haven’t arrived yet. It’s also a window when national parks feel more accessible — easier to explore without the traffic, timed-entry headaches, and fully booked lodging.

Data provided to Matador by Airbnb highlights growing interest in gateway towns near major national parks, particularly across the desert Southwest and Mountain West. Towns such as Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley near Joshua Tree National Park, Moab outside Arches and Canyonlands, Estes Park at the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, and Oakhurst just south of Yosemite are among the destinations seeing increased search activity as spring approaches.

This trend isn’t limited to a handful of gateway towns. The National Park Service recorded 331.9 million recreation visits in 2024, the highest total ever across the US national park system. Visitors are also spreading their trips across more months of the year: 55 percent of parks reported above-average visitation during the February–June and October–December periods, rather than only during the traditional summer peak.

Spring is also when many parks begin reopening seasonal roads, visitor facilities, and high-elevation trails after winter closures. Wildflowers begin appearing across desert landscapes and lower-elevation valleys, and comfortable temperatures make long hikes far more manageable than they are later in summer. If you’re considering a spring trip to a national park, you won’t be the only one with that plan. That’s why staying close to the park entrance — rather than commuting in from farther towns — can be a practical advantage. The Guest Favorite rentals below come from Airbnb’s list of high-demand stays in these gateway towns, placing you within easy reach of some of the most visited national parks in the United States, from the desert landscapes of Joshua Tree to the granite valleys of Yosemite.

We hope you love the Airbnbs near national park gates we recommend! Just so you know, Matador may collect a small commission from the links on this page if you decide to book a stay. Listed prices are accurate as of the time of publication.
