Whether you loved or hated Netflix’s interactive film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, there’s no doubt that it revolutionized the streaming platform, and gave viewers a taste of what’s possible. Now, Netflix is following the Bandersnatch phenomenon with You vs Wild, an interactive survival show hosted by Bear Grylls. Like his previous Discovery Channel show, Man vs Wild, Grylls will attempt to survive in extreme conditions and climates, with one important difference — viewers will call the shots. You will be asked to make decisions that determine whether Grylls survives in jungles, mountains, deserts, and forests around the world.

While viewers’ decisions will impact Grylls methods of survival in the wilderness, it’s unlikely that poor (or mean) audience choices could actually kill Grylls.
Although Netflix has offered interactive entertainment before Bandersnatch, the Black Mirror feature was the first to truly combine traditional live-action visual storytelling with interactive elements. And pending the success of You vs Wild, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was the start of a major trend.
The show will premiere on Netflix on April 10, with all eight episodes available immediately.
