The Old Quarter is one of the most popular attractions in Hanoi. Here you will find an abundance of shops, restaurants, cafes and other businesses that have been in operation since the 19th century. Take a tour of the old quarter, visit local landmarks like Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple or just wander around soaking up the atmosphere. Be sure to visit Dong Xuan Market, one of the largest markets in Hanoi. Whether you’re after souvenirs or local handicrafts, fresh produce or traditional snacks – it can all be found here This market is open every day from 8am until 6pm so make sure to put it on your itinerary if you’re looking for some retail therapy.

Despite the relatively urban vibe, the city is also full of natural beauty, like Hoan Kiem Lake. Located at the heart of the city, it is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. After a leisurely stroll around the lake, make sure to visit Ngoc Son Temple which is located on an island in the middle of the lake. Built in honor of General Tran Hung Dao and scholar Van Xuong, this temple dates back to 18th century and offers lake views from its terrace.

No trip to Hanoi would be complete without sampling some local cuisine. Be sure to try Bun Cha (vermicelli noodles with pork), Pho (rice noodles with beef), Banh Mi (baguettes filled with pork) and Xoi (sticky rice). If you’re feeling brave, why not sample some deep-fried insects? They taste better than they look, and they’re good for you.
