The mirrors in the lobby of Hotel Operis are etched with Shakespeare quotes. I noticed them as soon as I walked through the doors, along with the artwork lining the walls, and spent an afternoon of my stay wandering the halls admiring both.
Until Oct. 1, 2026, this property was known as the Grand Bohemian, which opened in 2015 at the corner of Meeting and Wentworth streets in Charleston, South Carolina. The new name came with new branding, including the quotes found on mirrors throughout the property. The hotel, which is still part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, says the theater theme draws on the 11 theaters within walking distance, including Dock Street Theatre, often billed as America’s first.
Over three days at Hotel Operis, I blended my own bottle of wine, went on a ghost tour, and spent about as much time in the hotel as I did out in Charleston.
