Where is Jackson Hole, Wyoming?

Jackson Hole is a valley located in the northwestern part of Wyoming, and Jackson is the main town in Jackson Hole. Teton Village is the name of the “town” closest to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, which is about a 20-minute drive from Jackson. It’s part of the Teton Mountain Range, and is known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities, including skiing, hiking, and wildlife watching (wolves! grizzlies! elk!)

The closest airport to Jackson Hole is Jackson Hole Airport, which is small but served by major airlines like  Delta, United, American, and Alaska. There are actually a good number of direct flights from towns like NYC, Denver, Salt Lake, and LA, so it may be an easier-than-expected location for everyone to reach, especially if your guests are coming from across the country.

How far is Jackson Hole from Yellowstone?

Photo: Margaret.Wiktor/Shutterstock

Jackson Hole is south of Yellowstone National Park. The closest park entrance is the south entrance, which is 57 miles away. The drive takes about an hour and 15 minutes without any traffic, but remember, if you’re visiting in winter, that ice and snow can make the drive take much longer. The south entrance is usually open year-round, but it may still close temporarily during heavy storms.

However, if you’d like to explore a national park during your Jackson Hole bachelorette party, you could instead head to Grand Teton National Park. The southern entrance to the park is 12 miles north of Jackson, and the drive takes about 20 minutes. But remember that the distance to where you want to go in Grand Teton National Park, may be a little further. For example, driving to popular Jenny Lake takes about 30-35 minutes from Jackson, depending on traffic.

What to do in Jackson Hole in the summer

Photo: Danita Delimont/Shutterstock

Jackson Hole is a gorgeous mountain town in the Teton Mountain Range, so it has all the activities you’d expect from a world-class mountain destination, including hiking, mountain biking, rafting and paddling, camping, rock climbing, and more.

But the best things to do in Jackson Hole in the summer are the activities you can only find in a few places around the country, like Jackson Hole. That includes wildlife tours via helicopter or ATV to see moose, grizzlies, and mountain goats; visiting nearby parks like Yellowstone and Grand Teton; and taking a morning hot air balloon ride above the mountains (with mimosas and muffins, of course).

Jackson is known as a luxury destination, and while there are certainly pricey activities, remember that adventures, like hiking, picnicking, swimming and floating in mountain lakes, and attending summer festivals, are almost always free (or at least very inexpensive).
