This Maldives Resort Is Hiring an Intern to Look After Its Turtles

by Eben Diskin Jun 4, 2019

This might be one of the best summer internship opportunities you’ll come across. Instead of sitting behind a desk at a boring office job, you can become an intern at this hotel in the Maldives, where you’ll work in the Marine Turtle Rescue Centre for two weeks. Your duties will include feeding the turtles, cleaning their tanks, observing surgeries, attending turtle rescue missions, providing information to guests, posting about the experience on Instagram, and learning from veterinary experts. You won’t be paid for your work, but your flights to paradise, lodging, and food will all be covered.

The experience is ideal for those interested in veterinary science, as you will be working closely with Claire Petros, one of the UK’s leading turtle surgeons. The rescue center itself claims to be the first and only veterinarian-led turtle rescue center in the Maldives, responsible for the rescue and rehabilitation of the area’s turtles.

You will be staying in an overwater villa at the Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu resort, with every meal provided by the resort’s Cowrie buffet restaurant. And the resort won’t merely function as a base for your internship. You can also take advantage of the excursions available to guests, including a sunset cruise, diving, dolphin watching, and a group snorkeling trip in Baa Atoll.

To qualify, you must be a UK resident over 18 years old. Applicants should submit a two- to three-minute video and a 500-word cover letter explaining why they’re a good fit for the role. Apply on the Coco Collection website from June 17 to June 31.
