Man Jumps Off Cruise Ship for Social Media Fame and Gets Banned From Royal Caribbean for Life

The list of incredibly stupid things people do to impress their peers or obtain more social media followers just got a new entry and, if there were a ranking, it would shoot straight to the top.

While the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Symphony of the Seas was docked in the Bahamas, 27-year-old Nick Naydev from Vancouver, Washington, decided to jump from the 11th floor into the ocean — with his friend recording the whole thing, of course. Given that the video was immediately uploaded to Instagram, the stunt was presumably an effort to achieve social media fame.

So far, the video has over 68,000 views, and while Naydev hasn’t provided any official comment, his friend who filmed the video told Yahoo Lifestyle, “We didn’t really care about the consequences with the cruise company. We just wanted to get a video of it and make it go viral.” Seemingly, it worked.

Naydev has been responding to comments on his Instagram video, inquiring about his injuries following the jump. “My feet were actually fine,” he said in response to one inquiry. “It was my neck and tailbone that hurt. Could barely walk for 3 days and could barely sleep from the pain.” One commenter pointedly said, “Just so you know, if you were dead, the same people calling you a legend would be laughing at you and calling you stupid. You did something stupid and are lucky to be alive to laugh at it, you’re not a legend.”

As a reward for his “legendary” efforts, Royal Caribbean has banned Naydev and his friends for life, and are even exploring legal action.
