This stunning property — known as Casa Caracol, the Seashell House, or simply Shell House on Airbnb — is bound to be the highlight of any getaway to Isla Mujeres, which is located roughly 20 minutes from Cancún by ferry. It was designed and constructed by Eduardo and Raquel Ocampo who incorporated unique design elements from found materials like seashells, driftwood, and other natural elements. Artworks by the famous Mexican painter Octavio Ocampo also decorated the walls.
The perfect blend of campy charm and luxurious amenities, the Shell House sleep six and starts at $375 per night. The property’s exterior features a sunken living space, patio area with outdoor seating, and a private infinity pool and hot tub. Inside, guests will find two bedrooms, two full bathrooms and one half bath, and a kitchenette equipped with a refrigerator and stove top ovens, as well as basic kitchenware. (A third bedroom and separate bathroom are also available at the back of the house for an addition $99 per night.)
Guests can also enjoy breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea right outside their doorsteps and beach access within minutes. While on the island, visitors can explore traditional Mayan ruins, take in stunning views from the top of El Garrafon park, or go shopping for souvenirs downtown. When you’re not living it up at the Shell House, the best way to get around the island is by golf cart, which are available for rent throughout the island.
