Operation Beautiful Is in Effect

by Carlo Alcos Aug 6, 2011
Most of us can use a little boost in our self-confidence.

MY FRIEND (and former BNT editor) Christine Garvin posted the above photo on her Facebook wall with the caption, “Finally saw one of these out in the real world! The Magnetic Field, July 23.” It’s a post-it note stuck randomly as part of Operation Beautiful. Its mission is…

…to end negative self-talk or “Fat Talk.” If this little blog only does one productive thing, I hope it helps readers realize how truly toxic negative self-talk is — it hurts you emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Women are encouraged to send their little notes and experiences to be posted at the site. A couple of years ago, Candice Walsh put a callout on Matador Life for readers to submit their photos and stories for Operation Beautiful. It resulted in The way the music moves you is Operation Beautiful.

I’m a firm believer in self-love. When you’re hard on yourself, you’re hard on others. I think when people truly love themselves, it radiates out and touches people around them. Life becomes easier; the fighting and need to control becomes less.

You accept yourself. You accept others as they are. It allows for things to come into your life more naturally, instead of forcing it to happen. Operation Beautiful looks to help people move toward this. Throw random things out there; put yourself out there. You never know who and how anyone will be touched, but it can mean the world of difference to someone needing it at that precise moment.
