Members of the marine wildlife conservation organization Sea Shepherd Society were incredibly lucky to capture a drone footage of two blue whales swimming in the Southern Ocean off Antarctica. Indeed, the marine mammal is the largest animal that has ever lived and is a rare sight as it is endangered.

According to National Geographic, the population of blue whales is slowly recovering from legal and illegal whaling in the first half of the 20th century. Scientists believe that they are between 10,000 and 20,000 individuals left in the world’s oceans.

The Sea Shepherd crew of the Steve Irwin filmed this video during their search for poachers on Operation Icefish 2015-16.
