Forgotten Passenger Wakes Up Alone in Dark, Parked Plane

Usually, when you fall asleep on a plane the worst that happens is waking up and realizing you missed dinner. For this woman, however, taking a snooze during her flight turned into a nightmare.

After a flight from Quebec to Toronto, passengers and crew disembarked, leaving Tiffany Adams, who had fallen asleep, all alone in the pitch-black, parked aircraft.

According to The Guardian, upon waking, her first instinct was to call her friend for help, but her cell phone had died and she couldn’t charge since the power in the airplane was off. She attempted to use the radio in the flight deck, in vain, and even tried making SOS signals by shining a flashlight out of the plane window, but eventually was able to unbolt a cabin door and signal ground crew to help her down to the tarmac.

After apologizing, Air Canada offered her a limo and hotel, but she declined, wanting to return home as quickly as possible. “I haven’t got much sleep since the recurring night terrors,” she said, “and waking up anxious and afraid I’m alone locked up someplace dark,” she wrote on Facebook. Air Canada has expressed its regret, as well as concern for Adams. The airline is currently investigating the matter.
