Welcome to Mexico City’s punk rock flea market
Matt Hershberger
Dec 4, 2015
THE TIANGUIS CULTURAL DE CHOPO is not an average flea market. It has been running since 1980 as a home for Mexico City’s punk scene. It serves as a home for leftists, anarchists, feminists, animal liberationists, anti-corporate, and any other radicals looking for a space to hang out with people like them.
AJ+ journalist Andalusia Knoll reported on the Chopo and put together this short vide. Cheko, a punk who has traveled three hours every week for 10 years to come hang out at the market says, “All are welcome!” So add this to your to-do list next time you go to Mexico City.
