A Michigan woman is charged by the city for growing vegetables in her front yard and is facing court.

Tax dollars at work! This has to be one of the most outrageous things I’ve read in a while. I know America likes locking up its citizens (except the real criminals in the banks and corporations) but this is pretty ridiculous.

Julie Bass of Oak Park, Michigan is awaiting pre-trial on July 26 and may possibly face a jury to defend herself and her vegetable garden growing in her front yard. The City of Oak Park has charged her with a misdemeanor for violating city code. See the below video for a full report. I will apologize that what you are about to watch is Fox News. I actually feel a bit dirty using this.

If the city wins its case, she could face up to 93 days in jail. For a vegetable garden. A vegetable garden. If you want to show your support, you can Like the Facebook group, Oak Park Hates Veggies and sign the petition asking for the City to drop the charges (over 5100 signatures as of this posting).
