On February 12, Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro García Padilla selected Associate Justice Maite Oronoz Rodríguez, 39, to become the next Chief Justice of the US commonwealth’s highest court. If Oronoz Rodriguez is confirmed by the Puerto Rican Senate, she will be the first openly gay chief justice for the commonwealth.

Oronoz Rodríguez has worked as Puerto Rico’s deputy solicitor general, as chief legal counselor for San Juan, and as a justice on the Puerto Rican high court. Read the full article about her nomination here.
