DR. JOHN KITCHIN SPENT MOST OF HIS LIFE making money hand over fist in the rat race. But as he got older, he realized that very little of what he was doing made him feel good about himself. So he quit his job, bought a pair of roller skates, and now spends his days skating along San Diego’s Pacific Beach.
The New York Times made this short documentary on the life of Kitchin (who now calls himself “Slomo”) a few years back, and it’s still worth watching. Slomo has life figured out. He lives simply and skates all of the time, because that’s the only thing he really wants to do. He says he’ll keep doing it until he dies. He escaped from the rat race, and he’s not going back.
