Starbucks Now Has a Winter Drink That Tastes Like Gin

News
by Nickolaus Hines Nov 29, 2018

Last winter, Starbucks released a Juniper Latte in a couple Starbucks Reserve locations in the US. It was a new flavor for the coffee chain, and also a new flavor for many coffee drinkers — juniper tastes a little like Christmas trees or gin. This year, those of us who don’t live close to a Reserve have a chance to try the unusual holiday flavor, because the Juniper Latte is going nationwide.

For people unfamiliar with juniper, it tastes herbaceous and a little like pine trees. Starbucks adds the flavor to the drink with a syrup that also includes sage. Citrus and juniper sugar tops the drink off. Think of it as tasting something like a coffee gin cocktail, but without the gin.

Sales of the Juniper Latte started on November 27th, and along with the nationwide winter drink option, Starbucks also announced that its bringing back its Starbucks for Life contest on the Starbucks app. To enter, you have to be a Starbucks Rewards member. Five Starbucks-addicted winners will get free drinks every day for the next 30 years. That’s enough caffeine to power you through a life’s amount of work and save you the $56,575 that you would have spent on coffee over that period of time .

The Juniper Latte (along with Starbucks’ other winter specials like the Peppermint Mocha, Caramel Brulée Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, Gingerbread Latte, and Eggnog Latte) is available for a limited time, so taste that pine tree coffee while you can.
