Maybe Spanish or French wasn’t your thing in high school, but if you’ve got an ear for made-up languages, you could turn that into profit with this new teaching gig. Bark.com, a local services marketplace, is looking for tutors across the US and UK to teach students High Valyrian — the language of Essos in Game of Thrones — for $53 per hour. That’s a reasonable price, we think, for teaching people to speak the language of Daenerys Targaryen.

High Valyrian tutors will be required to create lessons consisting of reading, writing, speaking exercises, and role-playing scenarios — a task for those with some serious High Valyrian skills.

The one who developed the intricacies of High Valyrian and Dothraki for the TV series is not George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Fire and Ice, but linguist David Peterson. Apparently, he did such a good job that fans of the show are eager to learn those languages; according to The Economist, a language textbook publisher has already put out a volume on learning Dothraki and Duolingo offers a course in High Valyrian.

Kai Feller, co-founder of Bark.com, said of the gig, “At Bark.com, we love giving people different ways to earn and this is the latest service we’ve launched to do that. High Valyrian is a complex language and this is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has worked hard to become fluent to share their knowledge — not to mention it would be a fantastic string to any fan’s bow!”

You can either become a tutor or find a tutor by checking out the official postings on Bark.com.
