Immediately upon stepping into the lobby of the luxurious Seagate Hotel & Spa in Delray Beach, Florida, which has stood the test of time for nearly 100 years, guests come face-to-face with dozens of tropical fish (in an aquarium, of course, one of five featured at the property). Aside from the lobby aquarium, the hotel hosts two in the common areas, one actual shark tank in the restaurant, and one jellyfish tank in the bar.
Originally established in the the 1930s, the property was reimagined in the 1950s, and revamped again in the 2000s. Through it all, this property has a maintained strong connection with the local community and never lost its original beachy vibes, both factors that help the hotel sea a steady influx of return guests to this seaside destination. On a recent stay, I found the Seagate Hotel a perfect place to post up beachside in one of Florida’s quaintest towns.

The Seagate Hotel & Spa offers modern amenities yet retains a surf hotel vibe
The 154-room boutique hotel property sits just off the city’s main street, Atlantic Avenue, in a perfect location central tol the area’s best activities. It’s the only resort in Delray that offers guests exclusive access to a private beach and has its own championship golf course, in addition to a full-service spa, multiple swimming pools, and multiple on-site restaurants.
Rooms are filled with natural light and outfitted with designer furnishings, including black-out curtains to enhance any night’s sleep, Egyptian cotton linens, Malin+Goetz Amenities, spa-inspired bathrooms, cozy Spa Robes & Slippers, Private Balconies, and 65-inch HD TVs.
Those seeking to enjoy a restorative spa experience can visit the on-site, 8,000-square-foot full-service spa, which offers restorative treatments using upscale brands such as ESPA and Doctor BABOR luxury skincare. Choose between treatments, including manicures, massages, and facials, and indulge in an incredible pampering experience. Spa guests also get all-day access to hotel amenities, including the pool, the tranquility room, the steam room, and the fitness center. The Seagate Fitness Center — which is open 24 hours — features equipment including free weights, Kinesis machines, and visitors can even choose between a range of group class bookings or sign up for a personal training session based on availability.
Dining at the Seagate Hotel & Spa
After working up an appetite, dine at the hotel’s coastal chic restaurant, Atlantic Grille — which serves a fresh, seafood-focused menu at brunch, lunch, and dinner. Or, just stop in for happy hour at the restaurant’s bar and sip a glass of wine or a craft cocktail in the cozy firepit lounge. Diners can enjoy their meal al fresco on the patio (perfect for people watching) indoors (where there’s another aquarium to admire) or in the private dining room.
Across the hallway, ETC. Cafe is the perfect spot to pick up a “grab and go” bite or drink to take away for an exciting day out exploring. Pick between one of the freshly baked pastries, freshly roasted coffees, fresh fruit smoothies, sandwiches, or salads, and head to the beach or fuel up for a stroll around downtown.
For those who just want to lounge in bed, in-room dining is always an option. There’s a wide range of menu items that are tasty, well-plated, and, best of all, delivered right to the door.
Easy access to shopping as well as off-site dining and activities
Guests can also enjoy a bit of shopping indulgence while traveling. The hotel’s on-site Aqua Resort Wear shop sells jewelry made by local designers, hats and handbags, sunglasses, and sandals, as well as apparel that’s perfect for spending a day on the beach or a night out on the Avenue. There’s also a separate on-site gift shop that sells goodies and souvenirs like high-quality bath products, candles, beach toys, and general sea-inspired décor to take home and serve as a reminder of a well-enjoyed stay.
When it’s time to explore off-site, there’s a complimentary shuttle service for visitors to check out nearby shopping and restaurants, as well as to the hotel’s private off-site amenities — The Seagate Country Club, The Seagate Yacht Club, and The Seagate Beach Club, which are all included in the price of an overnight stay and located nearby.
The Beach Club is a seaside oasis of a spot to spend a day sunbathing by the pool or on the property’s private beach. The club actually has a fascinating history, having originally been a 1950s single-family home, today transformed into this seaside retreat boasting panoramic water views and beachfront dining. It feels like a blending of the charm and elegance of The Hamptons combined with the laid-back attitude of Key West. Visitors to the club will experience oceanfront dining with waiter service, towel service, beach chairs and umbrellas, cabana rentals, and a full range of watersports.
At the resort’s Country Club, which is also accessible as part of a stay, enjoy access to the 18-hole championship course that’s been played by golfing greats including Jack Nicklaus. It’s considered one of the finest courses in Palm Beach County. The club also has tennis courts, pickleball courts, and volleyball courts.
At the Yacht Club, guests will experience private dockside serenity in a space that can accommodate groups — including 60 seated guests. Yachts up to 120 feet can dock here, and return visitors can rent boat slips annually, monthly, weekly, or even just daily.
And visitors don’t have to leave furry family members behind — dogs are welcome at The Seagate. This property is a pet-friendly hotel and welcomes dogs and service animals under 20 pounds with a $100 non-refundable pet deposit and a $25 per-day cleaning fee.
A trip to The Seagate means the opportunity to relax and unwind in the sunshine on the beach or enjoy an adventure exploring Atlantic Avenue for a day out on the town. This hotel has artfully struck an ideal balance in combining the upscale experience of a luxury resort with a laid-back seaside atmosphere of a coastal destination retreat.
