McDonald’s Is Bringing the Stroopwafel McFlurry and Other International Menu Items to the US

United States News Food + Drink

If you’ve ever caved to your fast-food cravings while traveling then you know that McDonald’s abroad has some menu offerings that are downright tastier than what you can find in the US. Matador Network even sampled and reviewed a range of the chain’s foreign fast-food bites last year. Now, to our greatest pleasure, those international items might be coming stateside.

According to leaked documents obtained by Business Insider, McDonald’s is looking at adding four international favorites to its menu, including the Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger from Spain, the Stroopwafel McFlurry from the Netherlands, the tomato and mozzarella chicken sandwich from Canada, and the cheesy bacon fries from Australia.

Those four items were tested at 50 locations in Florida in 2018 and selected according to their popularity among other international offerings that did not make the cut.

To make your mouth water, here’s some of what you should expect. The Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger is a Quarter Pounder with applewood smoked bacon, Gouda cheese, slivered onions, and McBacon sauce. The Stroopwafel McFlurry is cookie-like, with caramel-filled waffles crushed up in soft-serve vanilla ice cream and topped with caramel sauce.

According to Business Insider, the new “Worldwide Favorites” will replace the chain’s “Signature Crafted” line of more upscale burgers, in order to reduce the number of products in its restaurants. In a statement last week, McDonald’s said, “Based on [customer] feedback, we’ll move away from the Signature Crafted Recipes line on our national menu.”

While Mcdonald’s hasn’t yet confirmed the existence of the upcoming Worldwide Favorites menu options, it would be very hard to tell customers now that they’re not going to get any cheesy bacon fries.
